Action: Replace

What to replace?

Determines the text or partial text to replace. The following types are available:.

  • a text
  • a character type
  • an area (defined by position, search term, character type or regular expression)
  • the whole name

What to replace with?

Designates the text or partial text that should replace the previous text. The text to be replaced can be substituted with the following types:

  • with a text
  • with a numbering (in consecutive or random order)

    Leading zeros are designated by the length of the initial value (i.e., 1, 01, 001). With the Step you specify by how much the value increases with each name.

    In the section "Number separately" can be determined if and when the numbering should be done separately.

    • Folders - the numbering is done separately for each folder
    • File types - the numbering is done separately for each file extension

  • with metadata
    • Picture taken date
    • Exif data (camera maker, camera model, photographer, description, comment, image width/height, horizontal/vertical resolution, flash used)
    • Image data (width/height, horizontal/vertical resolution, bit depth)
    • Audio data (artist, album, title, year, comment, track, genre, bitrate, album artist, composer, disc number)
    • IPTC data (country name, country code, province/state, city, location, title, photographer, name, provider, source)
    • PDF data (version, author, title, subject, keywords, creator, producer, page count)
    • Video data if the plugin is installed (width, height, frame rate, standard, aspect ratio, audio codec, video codec, overall bitrate, video bitrate, audio bitrate, audio compression, duration, title)
  • with properties of files/folders
    • Creation date
    • Last modified date
    • Parent folder name

      Replaces text with the name of a super-ordinated folder.

    • File size

      Replaces text with the file size. You can select diverse units and decimal separator, and you can also designate the number of decimal places.

    • Hash value

      Replaces the text with the hash value of the file's contents. Choose from the following hash functions: MD5, SHA1, SHA256, CRC32

  • with other data
    • Names list

      Enables the replacement of the selected area of the names with lines from a text file.

    • Today's date
    • Random characters

      Replaces text with random characters. You can select the number and type of characters (uppercase letters, lowercase letters and/or numbers) to be generated.

    • File content (text files)

      Replaces the text with an area or a line of the file's content. For example, you can use the title of HTML files or a value from XML files for naming. In the options, the file type and file size can be restricted.

    • Created definition

      Replaces the text by a previously created definition.

      • own name
      • name of a contained file (only to be used for folder names)
      • name of a contained folder (only to be used for folder names)
      • parent folder name
    • Part of own name
      • a character type
      • an area (defined by position, search term, character type or regular expression)
