First, add the photos to be renamed to the list. You can either use the selection
dialog, or add the files/folders using drag and drop onto the program interface.
Click on the button featuring the plus (+) symbol to add the action Insert to the action list.
The next step is to set the position where the date should be inserted. For example, the
beginning or the end of the file name can be selected.
With Rename Expert you can automatically rename photos by using information from EXIF and
IPTC metadata. To use the shooting date as in this example, select now the
entry "Metadata -> Photo Taken Date" in the action menu.
Next, the format of the date is to be adjusted. By clicking Select a menu is
shown that contains all elements of the date. For each entry you can select any part of
the date. Click on the button featuring the plus (+) symbol to add additional entries.
In the preview list, a preview of the new photo file names is displayed. List entries in green
font color indicate that changes are planned for the corresponding file name and there are no
conflicts with existing files. If a photo does not contain a valid shooting date, no changes will
be made to the file name.
If there are no conflicts, the Tasks dialog can be opened by a click on the Apply
button. All photos to be renamed are listed there and the renaming process can be
started by clicking on the Start button.
